Johnson, D-Dallas, was the first Democrat to throw his hat in the ring to succeed retiring House Speaker Joe Straus, R-San Antonio. He was first elected to represent Texas’ Congressional District 100 in a special election in April 2010. He serves as vice chairman of the House Committee on Redistricting, and he is a member of the Ways & Means and Investments & Financial Services committees, as well as the Select Committee on State & Federal Power & Responsibility.
