Event description

Description

Thank you so much for your support of our Annual Kenneth Austin Rheumatology symposium. Due to health concerns over the spread of the coronavirus infection (COVID 19), Howard University has issued new guidance limiting activities with >50 expected attendees. Due to this, we have decided to cancel our symposium this year. The Rheumatology faculty at Howard University remains committed to promoting state-of-the-art care for our patients with rheumatic disease and to the education of our community.

We will plan to host the symposium as usual next year, so please save the date for Saturday, April 3rd, 2021!

---------------

[CANCELLED] The 15th Annual Kenneth Austin Rheumatology Symposium at Howard University Hospital will be held on April 4, 2020 from 7:00 am to 1:40 pm. This annual activity is made available to regional doctors, nurses, and physician assistants interested in advancing their knowledge of common rheumatic conditions.

The District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia are home to an immensely diverse population. We believe that by educating those who treat minority patients, we can help reduce ethnic disparities in rheumatic diseases and improve access to state-of-the-art therapies. We are very happy to host guest speakers from renowned hospitals and medical colleges in this year’s program to discuss the following topics:

  • Inflammatory skin diseases specific to ethnic minorities

  • Rheumatic Complications of treatment with checkpoint inhibitors

  • The burden of disease in any lupus patient

  • The impact of urate disease in patients with and without metabolic syndrome
