Event description

Description

The Paris Agreement gave way to changes at a policy level, but it also gave rise to social movements demanding immediate and decisive solutions to climate change. These social movements, such as Extinction Rebellion, as well as movements in indigenous and local communities around the world, know that Paris won’t be enough to save the world.

From the forests to the streets, communities everywhere demand decisive action. They both know that this is an emergency and no mild promises will do. The turning point for climate change is around the corner, and this posits a challenge bigger than any of its kind. No one movement can undertake it alone, we need everyone everywhere to rise up together and join forces.

Indigenous and local communities and urban resistance movements must join their fights, and the moment is now. The guardians of the forest cannot hold the fort without the rest of society pitching in; and the urban strikes will do little to save the forests without joining with those on the frontlines.

Join us for a discussion with indigeneous leaders from around the world and one of the leaders of Extinction Rebellion NYC.
