Description

** Amid COVID 19 concerns, this event has been CANCELED **

Aloha alumni and friends of the College of Engineering,

First, please accept my deepest MAHALO and appreciation for all of your continued support for UH's engineering program, research, and, most importantly, our students. Our college would not be able to develop engineering solutions to critical issues affecting our local and global communities and educate Hawai'i's next generation of engineers and leaders without your commitment, loyalty and your generosity.

Considering the recent circumstances our state is facing and in consideration for everyone's safety and well-being, we have decided to cancel the 20th Annual Banquet, scheduled for April 22, 2020. Unfortunately, we have determined that it is not possible to hold an event of this scale amidst concerns of the spread of COVID-19 and the state’s direction towards social distancing to contain the spread of this virus.

We are extremely disappointed, as we know many of you are, that we cannot gather and celebrate as an engineering community since we are truly one of the closest tight-knit industry ohana and are the envy of all other units and alumni associations here at the University of Hawaii. We will be looking forward to our other opportunities the College of Engineering and our Engineering Alumni Association will have to engage throughout the remainder of the year once circumstances have settled down in our state and we have returned to some level of normalcy. We look forward to that day - hopefully soon.

We also want to MAHALO all of you who have already supported the College through this banquet event. I will be trying to personally reach out to each of you individually to discuss your support and how best you would prefer to proceed, including refunding your sponsorship in a timely manner.

However, we would still like to continue the essence of the College of Engineering banquet. We plan on posting the videos of this year’s honorees and our featured student project, as they are still well-deserving. Each of you can attest to the relevance and advantage student projects and activities can bring to each one of our students. This annual banquet event has been and still is the largest single annual fundraiser for our College. It provides a significant amount of funding for student projects and other student activities. In some cases, it is the only funding some of these projects receive. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by April 22, 2020, which would have been the date of the banquet. This donation is 100% tax deductible. Please join me and make a gift to our virtual banquet fundraiser to support student projects and activities.

We know we will all be facing some difficult times as our economy begins to confront the impacts of the COVID-19 spread, and none more so than our students and their educational experience. As we have been advised to expect massive cuts to our general fund and tuition revenues in the coming fiscal year, now more than ever, our student projects will need financial support from sources outside of the University. The importance of our industry’s support for this event could not be more overstated.

Mahalo for your friendship, your partnership, and your generosity and we wish you and your 'ohana a healthy and safe spring.

Aloha

Brennon

P.S. - Please also follow us on the various social media sites the College has to continue to hear about the great things that the College, our faculty, alumni, and especially our students are doing...all through the support of generous members of our engineering ohana, like all of you.
