Event description

Description

Everyone is invited to a community celebration!

You are invited by the Forth and Clyde Canal Society, CanalCraft and its partners to an event to celebrate the achievements of volunteers and members of the community from Maryhill in building boats, making films and learning about life near the Forth and Clyde canal. We will display our boats, show films that detail work done with the project, share food, dance, sing and listen to music. Participants will receive awards and they will have the opportunity to talk about their experience to friends and family.

Our two wonderful Eco Bay skiffey boats were built by volunteers from Maryhill Integration Network, with expertise provided by Archipelago Folkschool and Haund an Ee. The boats were then painted and tested (successfully!) in the canal in Maryhill. We will be describing our plans and hopes for the future of the boats in the local community at our event.

Volunteers from Maryhill Integration Network and the Women's Centre, through mobile video journalism workshops under the direction of the project journalist Jen Jones , participants gathered material for a short film about the canal and what it means to them. The video will be shown at the event and we will discuss the impact of the project on the women participating and their surrounding community with respect to raising awareness and asking questions about life near the canal.

Participating groups: Maryhill Integration Network, The Women's Centre Glasgow, Lambhill Stables. CanalCraft is funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.'
