Description

CAN OUR CLOTHES HAVE NINE LIVES?

Join FGI Saint Louis and the Saint Louis Fashion Fund on Thursday, June 27th from 6-8pm for drinks, light bites, and an inside look at fashion's fastest growing category! Sustainable fashion is reinventing the entire industry after being called out for its impact on the environment. Resale and upcycled brand success stories are all over the headlines and we’re excited to hear from some of our own right here in St. Louis!

Everyone from The RealReal and Poshmark, to Rent The Runway and thredUP are building huge businesses based on recycling clothes. Many others are using recycled fabrics in their lines to be more sustainable. What can current brands do to become more sustainable? How can consumers turn their closets into cash? What’s next in the sustainable fashion frontier?

Hear from local brands in this booming industry about the growing trend, how old clothes are the new disruptors, and how you can be a part of the movement. Following the presentation guests will be able to meet and shop the local brands!

SPEAKERS

Chrissy Fogerty - Fauxgerty - A sustainability focused brand that is designed with ethics and versatility in mind. Their garments are domestically sewn in ethical factories using vintage and low impact textiles with silhouettes adaptable to every lifestyle and body type. Their intention is to create clothing that is made to feel right - from the construction, to environmental impact, to how it makes women feel when worn.

Jessica Means - The Resale Shop - High-quality new and gently used clothing, jewelry, home goods, accessories, and more that supports women, children and families in St. Louis through the community service programs of the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis.

Mary Ruppert-Stroescu - Washington University Fashion Design Department - On top of overseeing the fashion design department with a strong focus on sustainability, she also has developed her own patent-pending repurposed textile method that she's already designed multiple gorgeous apparel pieces with.

Jessica Conick - Mount Indigo - Launching at this event! This new line focuses on sustainable travel-friendly pieces like upcycled and reworked Levis denim jackets, sassy sustainable statement tees, and more. Be the first to see their debut collection!

Rick Wolf - Found By The Pound & Mednik-Riverbend - After investing nearly 40 years to keeping clothing out of landfills as the midwest's largest textile recycler, he decided to also open the public-facing thrift shop brand, Found By The Pound. His textile recycling business turns old shirts into industrial cleaning supplies to give them one more life and the thrift shops offer classic vintage and retro clothing in a unique and fun retail environment for classic rock tees, vintage dresses, denim, motorcycle jackets and more.
