Description

Looking for an inexpensive place to stay in St. Joseph, MO to enjoy the 2017 Solar Eclipse? We have the place for you! Come on out to Heritage Park and enjoy a primitive tent camping experience with family or friends. Stay and experience this once in a lifetime event at the Heritage Park Campsite!

Campsites for tent camping are $40.00 per night and include 25'X25' sites where you can camp and park your vehicle. Each campsite will be marked out and are limited to 4 persons per campsite. Camping locations within the campsite are first come first serve so you can choose where to pitch your tent. Port-a-pots and a charging station will be onsite to use free of charge and for those wishing to shower, a shower truck will be available at the campers cost thanks to Porkbelly Ventures. Campsites are available on Friday, August 18, 2017; Saturday, August 19, 2017; and Sunday, August 20, 2017. No camping will be allowed on the night of Monday, August 21, 2017.

There are numerous events planned for the weekend before the Eclipse so plan on staying a couple of nights to check out events at Trails West, the Remington Nature Center, the Pony Express Museum, Tootle Mansion, guest speakers and the Walter Cronkite exhibit at Missouri Western State University, the historic Mount Mora cemetary, the free planetarium at the East Hills Mall, and many other locations throughout the city. Enjoy the buffet and some time in the Casino or make your way to some of our amazing local restaurants. Bring your bike and explore the more than 19 miles of urban trails that connect the parkway system North to South and East to West throughout St. Joseph. Bring your camera and take some shots of the beautiful scenery, terrific architecture, and amazing historic mansions. Enjoy a shopping experience at the North Shoppes, East Hills Mall, or in downtown St. Joseph where you can stop for a coffee at one of the many coffee shops or an adult beverage at several establishements in the area. There is something for everyone.

Get your solar eclipse glasses right down the road in the Remington Nature Center gift shop or at the Convention and Visitor's Bureau located at 109 S. 4th Street, St. Joseph, MO.

For train enthusiasts, the railroad tracks are East of the campsite. A number of trains travel this section of track daily, bringing joy to those who are interested in trains. The River and Riverwalk that connects Heritage Park to Downtown St. Joseph are located to the West of the campsite. South of the campsite is the Casino and the Remington Nature Center.

The safety of our campers is important to us. As a result, safety lighting will be present at night at the campsite. Remember you are camping at your own risk. The City of St. Joseph is not responsible for any accidents, fatalities, or loss of personal property.

Campsite Rules:

1. No fires. Propane grills or cookstoves will be allowed.

2. Stay within your marked campsite.

3. No more than 4 persons per campsite. Groups at each campsite must be accompanied by an adult 19 years of age or older.

4. Be respectful of other campers and observe quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

5. No weapons are allowed on the property.

6. Place your printed registration on the outside of your tent in a visible location.

7. No drugs allowed, unless prescribed by your physician.

8. No alcohol is allowed in the camping areas.

9. Place all trash and garbage inside provided trash recepticles.

10. Campers understand that they are staying at the campground at their own risk and are required to sign a release form.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There are no minimum age requirements to enter the event. It is suggested that those with ID's have their ID's with them. Each campsite must have at least one adult present.

If I reserve camping the night of August 20, can I stay to watch the eclipse?

Anyone camping the night of August 20 is welcome to stay to view the eclipse. We hope you will enjoy your experience in St. Joseph and that the eclipse will be a positive life changing event for everyone viewing it from any of our St. Joseph locations.

When is Check-out?

Check out time will be 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017. Please have all of your vehicle, camping equipment, personal belongings and trash items removed from the campsites by 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 21, 2017.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

If you are flying into a local airport (Kansas City or Omaha), there are several rental car companies where you can rent a vehicle.

Personal vehicles can also be used to transport you to this site.

Parking is available on each campsite for vehicles that will fit on the site when the tent is pitched, or in a nearby parking lot.

What can I bring into the event?

Please bring all camping equipment that you find necessary to enjoy your stay: (tent, cots/mattress pads, sleeping bags/blankets, battery operated fans, flash lights, lawn chairs, sunscreen, bug spray, propane operated grill or campstove, extra batteries and propane, food, beverages, coolers, solar eclipse glasses, towels, changes of clothes, and other items you feel are necessary). This is primitive camping and it will be hot and humid in August. Please bring items to help you stay cool, hydrated, and safe from the sun and insects. There are a number or restaurant options in St. Joseph. A few of these are accessible by walking the Riverfront trail to the downtown area (about 1.5 miles from the campsite), however, most are only accessible by driving. If you wish to bring food with you, please feel free to do so. While campfires are not allowed at the campsite due to the typically extremely dry conditions in our area in August, you may cook on a propane cookstove to cook food with.

Are dogs allowed at the campsite?

Yes, dogs are allowed at the campsite. All dogs accompanying campers must be friendly, have current shots and licenses/registrations, and must be kept on a leash at all times.

What's the refund policy?

There are no refunds. All reservations are final.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes. Please bring your printed ticket to the event and post it on your tent or have it handy in case someone asks whether or not you paid for your stay.

Can I update my registration information?

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Your ticket is transferrable. If you wish to transfer your ticket to someone else, please email jnoel@stjoemo.org with your ticket #'s, confirmation code (if provided), original ticket holder's information, and new ticket holder's information. Please include full name, address, phone number, and email address.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

The ticket or registration must match the person who attends, unless you have contacted jnoel@stjoemo.org to transfer your ticket to someone else.

What is the last day I can reserve my campsite?

Reservations will be accepted for campsites until August 7, 2017. Please make sure to have your reservation in on or before this date to take advantage of one of the cheaper lodging opportunities in St. Joseph during the weekend before and the day of the eclipse.
