Camp Lejeune Monthly Smoke Alarm Rally
You can help save lives!
How: Volunteer to install smoke alarms in your community
Who: You, your friends, co-workers, or neighbors
When: Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
Where: We will meet at the American Red Cross Camp Lejeune Office located in Bldg. 1108 on Birch Street (across from the Base Library and Main Exchange).
Why: Seven times a day, someone in the United States dies in a home fire. The American Red Cross has embarked upon a 5-year campaign to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries caused by home fires by 25%. The most critical part of that effort is our initiative to install smoke alarms in specific high-risk areas where there are higher incidents of residential fires. To meet our goal, we intend to install nearly 500,000 smoke alarms in neighborhoods across the country over the next 5 years.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, we are looking for volunteers to help install smoke alarms in designated homes in Onslow County that have specifically requested this FREE service. The goal is to reduce possible injuries and death from fires. Volunteers will work in 3-4 person teams to install alarms, educate residents about fire escape planning, and to provide general fire safety information.
Volunteer Positions include:Trained Installer or Untrained Installer. Untrained installers will receive a quick class prior to being dispatched and will be paired with experienced installers. Any volunteers under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian present to participate and will be asked to sign a parental/guardian consent release form.
Please join us in this effort to reduce the terrible human toll fires take when there are no alarms present in a home. Together, we can make a huge difference and save lives!
