Join us for a special session of Camp Congress for Boys DC 2017. This week-long political leadership summer camp that introduces boys ages 9 to 14 to politics. Camp will include an outing to the US Capitol to meet members of Congress, visiting the House Gallery, visiting the Senate Gallery, lunch on the Hill, a tour of the US Capitol and visit to the Library of Congress. Participants will also visit the National Archives to see the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence. Additional outings include the National Museum of American History, the Newseum and National Museum of African American History and Culture.
The Camp Congress for Boys classroom curriculum begins with a boyl-friendly lesson on the structure of our political system. Each camper will choose to run for a seat in the US House of Representatives, the US Senate or for the presidency. He will create his own campaign with a platform, campaign slogan, campaign finance plan and a political ad. All campers will register to vote and then vote in an election. Once elected to Congress and sworn in, the newly installed members of Congress will learn how to introduce a bill, debate the merits of the bill, lobby fellow legislators, collaborate with the Executive branch and finally vote on the proposed bill. Camp will culminate with a ceremonial signing of the bill by our President. During the camp session the campers will meet political consultants that will serve as honorary camp counselors. All attendees earn a Certificate of Completion.
The camp fee includes snacks, all supplies for camp activities including Capitol Hill and other outings. Campers bring lunch Monday through Thursday and a pizza party will be hosted on Friday. Installment Agreement Terms: Installment agreement available for general admission tickets only. Deposit of $325 due immediately to secure ticket. Balance of $325 due on or before February 1, 2017. All deposits are non-refundable. Ticket purchaser will be electronically invoiced for balance due.
