Event description
CAMP CARPE DIEM - Explore Your Interests, Find Your Tribe

About this Event

Ever find yourself wondering what to do for entertainment besides opening up your computer for more screen time? Welcome to Camp Carpe Diem (CCD), where computers are rarely thought of, fun is your constant companion, and real people replace Zoom calls.

What is Camp Carpe Diem?

Camp Carpe Diem is a means to let go of your cell phones, computers, Zoom calls, job titles and professionalism to seek out what makes you grin, giggle and get giddy with excitement for all the things you enjoy or want to experience with people who have been there, done that.

Things like mountain biking, cooking, photography, beer tasting and brewery tours, jeeping, yoga and more.

Camp Carpe Diem is a place to connect with fellow RVers, travelers, nomads, entrepreneurs and on-the-road workers. It’s a place to come together to explore your interests, find your tribe and create a community of like-minded people where personal connections become more important than WIFI connections.

A place where sticky s’mores hands, scraped up mountain biking knees, burnt BBQ’d fingertips, rainbow yoga minds, happy feet, revitalized taste buds and laughter-invigorated souls take over your world...if only for a long weekend.

The Haps at Camp Carpe Diem

Prepare yourself for a long weekend of fun in the beautiful San Juan Mountains in Ouray, Colorado on October 7-10, 2021.

While the full agenda is not set yet, we are scheduling a variety of events led by people with experience in each topic, so that you can do exactly what you are meant to do at Camp Carpe Diem: explore your interests, find your tribe and build community and connections while enjoying yourself. In other words, seizing the day!

Possible activities to be planned for Camp Carpe Diem include, but are not limited to: local brewery tours, mountain biking clinics, mountain biking rides, Jeep tours, photography workshops, hiking, cooking, yoga and other workouts, rig tours, chats on local history and boondocking, a marketplace to buy and sell from RVers, Leave No Trace principles and fire starting lessons, social happy hour and community dinner complete with s’mores and more.

Who are the Camp Guides?

Your camp guides for this exhilarating weekend are the owners of Living a Stout Life and The Virtual Campground, all of whom are full-time RVers with great experiences and varied interests to share, along with skills to teach you all you need to know to enjoy the activities that are Camp Carpe Diem.

Post Camp Carpe Diem Boondocking Opportunity

Want to learn more about boondocking with some people who have done it before? Feel more comfortable boondocking with a group of people instead of by yourself? Join us on this optional, free boondocking jaunt starting Monday, October 11. Possible locations will be around Silverton, Durango, Salida. If you are interested, there will be a signup available soon. Flexibility is the key when boondocking. Location will be determined depending on the number of people wanting to boondock and weather forecast. Participation will be limited.

Seize the Day - Register Now!

Do you feel that sense of urgency? You better, because we want to create connections, community and direction in your life and it’s a bit difficult to do that within a conference of 1,000 people. Wait! First, this isn’t a conference! Second, we want to make this an intimate event so we can get to know each other. Which means, it will sell out, and you don’t want to miss out.

How to Register

Register now for early bird pricing of $145 per person (prices increase April 2021). The first 50 people to register get entered into a drawing for a pair of custom engraved Yeti Beer Koozies. This ain’t your typical Koozie. It’s a Colster Can Insulator.

Where to Stay

Many of the events will be held on site at the official CCD location at KOA Ouray. You are welcome to stay wherever you’d like; but if you want ALL the community, book your stay now at KOA Ouray by calling Kendall at 970-325-4736 and mentioning Camp Carpe Diem with The Virtual Campground and Living a Stout Life. KOA requires a non-refundable one night deposit.

Make your reservation now to lock in 2020 pricing. Prices increase in 2021 for any reservations made after January 1, 2021.

There are 27 reserved sites for CCD available until January 31, when they will be released to the public.

You can still book after January 31; however, your site might not be in the CCD reserved block.

Refund Policy

Refunds for CCD registration will be available if you cancel your participation at least 60 days prior to the event. At 30 days out, we can offer a 50% discount. Refunds for KOA. Your'e not charged for KOA until you show up and check in; however, your first night is non-refundable.

Things to Do in the Area

Ouray KOA is located about halfway in between the quaint Southwestern Colorado Mountain towns of Ridgway and Ouray and close to many other adorable mountain towns that have shopping, breweries, restaurants, hot springs, hiking, mountain biking and OHV trails, scenic vistas, watersports and more.

While here, remember you are at altitude, with Ouray starting at 7700 feet, and there are many winding mountain roads. Along with that, weather in Colorado mountains can be very fickle, meaning it can change from warm and sunny to blistering cold and snowing in an instant, especially on mountain passes and summits. Before heading out on your own adventures, be sure to do some research.

Miles from KOA Ouray:

  • Ouray - 5 miles
  • Ridgway - 6 miles
  • Ridgway State Park - 9 miles
  • Silverton - 28 miles - over the Million Dollar Highway
  • Montrose - 32 miles
  • Black Canyon of the Gunnison - 46 miles
  • Telluride - 46 miles
  • Durango - 75 miles - over the Million Dollar Highway

Camping in the Area:

There are several campgrounds and RV parks, a few dispersed camping sites, and a state park near Ouray. If you need assistance finding a place to stay outside of KOA Ouray, let us know; we’ll be happy to help.
