Caminos Music presents Somatic Melodies /Exploring the Sound and Body Frontier
Three artist with over 25 years experience come together to create a unique artistic experience where Latin American Music, Venezuelan Joropo, Tambores and Flamenco set the ground for a creative performance beyond music and dance genres. Contemporary and Afro-Venezuelan Dancer Juliana Mendonca, Multi-Instrumentalist Jackie Rago and Guitarist Carlos Caminos open up a space where sound is embodied and movement is translated into sound.
Juliana Mendonca is a Venezuelan Contemporary Dance performer, choreographer and teacher. Powerful, rhythmic and sublime, her dance crosses the boundaries of style with an eloquent sense of improvisation. Juliana co-founded Raíz de Agua, a music and dance company and has performed mostly as a solo artist with the Company and through dance has found a way to connect her creativity to spirit and nature, compounded with a unique feminine and artistic self-awareness. She has drawn influences from contemporary and popular dance styles such as Butoh, Latin Traditional Dances, Contact Dance Improvisation and Physical Theater, to find a unique language with which she can express and create powerful works of art and healing.
Jackeline Rago (Venezuela-USA) is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, composer, arranger, producer, performer, and recording artist. She has performed and recorded a broad repertoire of music ranging from the folk music of her native Venezuela and other Latin American and Caribbean countries to original compositions mixed with jazz and pop elements. Jackeline’s passion for teaching elementary students has inspired her to compose and record children’s music. She holds a music BA and is an Orff certified music teacher from the San Francisco School and the Dominican College, Marin, CA. Currently, Jackeline is in charge of the Lower School music program at park Day school in Oakland, CA, and has worked as a faculty member at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, CA, for 15 years. Jackeline is the musical director of two Bay Area bands, the “Venezuelan Music Project” (Folk-Venezuelan Music) and the “VNote Ensemble” (Fusion of Venezuelan music and Jazz). Jackeline has performed nationally and internationally for over 25 years and has led Orff master classes and Venezuelan music workshops in the USA, Canada, Costa Rica, Japan, Spain, Finland, Thailand, Venezuela, Brazil, Panama, St Croix, Barbados, and Ghana.
Carlos Caminos is a Venezuelan-American guitarist, composer and performer. His style focuses on Flamenco and Latin American Guitar. He has co-founded several projects: Raíz de Agua, a Live Music and Theatrical Dance group with choreographer Juliana Mendonca and music producer Jorge Espinoza; Latifonía, a project of Latin American and European Music for Band and Symphonic Orchestra; A Tono Acústico, contemporary Venezuelan Music; New Caminos Duo, Piano – Guitar recitals with Classical Pianist Sebastian New; Trio Caminos, Flamenco and Latin American Music acoustic music project. He has collaborated a wide variety of groups: Tangueros Del Oeste, and Musical Art Quintet, Dir. Sascha Jacobsen; David Byrd and Byrds of a Feather, Reggae-Jazz; Mirada Interna, Afro-Venezuelan Rock group, Dir. Jorge Espinoza, among others. "

EVENT TIME
When should I arrive?Doors open 30 minutes before the scheduled performance time. For example, if the show is scheduled to start at 7:30pm, the doors will open at 7:00pm. If the show is scheduled to start at 8:00pm, the doors will open at 7:30pm, and so on.

If an event is sold out online, could I still purchase tickets? No
Does purchasing an advance ticket guarantee seating?Purchasing an advance ticket guarantees admission, but does not guarantee seats. Seating is first come, first served.
Does the Poppy accept debit or credit cards? Only for online sale. Door sale is cash.
What's the refund policy?Refunds are only available in the event of a cancelled performance.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Is there a discount for children?No, this event is all ages. However, refreshments will be served at the concessions counter. Children 10 and under receive free general admission.
Where are my tickets?Your tickets will be emailed to you as a PDF attachment from Eventbrite on behalf of the Red Poppy, or you may access them in the Eventbrite app. If you do not see your order confirmation in your inbox, make sure to check your junk/spam folder. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?You may bring your printed ticket or show your ticket on your phone. There will be no tickets available for pick up at Will Call.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?Yes, you’re welcome to purchase tickets for someone else.

Is the space ADA accessible?Yes, there is a ramp at our 23rd St entrance.
What kind of seating do you have available?For most of our events we have folding chairs and a few couches available.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?Street parking is available but can be limited around the Red Poppy. We encourage you to take public transportation whenever possible. Several MUNI lines run close to the Red Poppy, and the 24th St. Mission BART station is just under half a mile away.
