Join us on September 18th for a one-day event on floodplain management and mitigation funding opportunities

About this Event

Overview: Floodplain management (TWDB’s abridged Flood 101 course) classes in the morning followed by flood-related funding, programs, and resources in the afternoon. 7 CECs are available for Floodplain Managers attending this workshop.

AGENDA

8:00am-12:00pm Flood 101 Mitigation Class

Section 3: Flood Maps (1 hour)- Understanding the basics of how Flood Insurance Rate Maps are developed and how to access and read them

Section 4: Flood Damage Prevention Ordinances/Court Orders (1 hour)- An overview of the minimum compliance standards for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program

Section 5: Permits and Variances (1 hour)- Information on how to enforce and regulate development within the floodplain

Section 8: Substantial Damage and Substantial Improvements (1 hour)- Understanding duties and operations within the floodplain when structures are damaged or improved/renovated.

1:00pm – 2:00pm DR-4454 Map Exhibit Review

Customized community maps of Cameron County for public/official review. During this exhibit we will analyze areas to determine benefits from mitigation, discuss incorporating mitigation in project planning and impacts from the larger watershed.

2:00pm – 3:00pm Agency Presentations

Presentations covering funding opportunities, eligibility requirements, application guidelines and services provided to assist with mitigation and resiliency planning and operations.

Overview of questions received during Round Table Q&A that would benefit the entire group.

Opportunity for informal discussions of shared issues and initiatives to establish and discuss next steps for mitigation mission progression.
