Description

Make MLK Day A Day of Service for those in need in the Cambridge Community and Beyond

The 7th Annual Cambridge Day of Service organized by Many Helping Hands 365 to celebrate the Martin Luther King Day holiday. The event is FREE and open to the public.

All ages are welcome to help with hands-on crafts projects that benefit Cambridge residents in need. Join us for an afternoon of hands-on service projects! Make fleece scarves and blankets for homeless children and adults. Make Valentines for elders and veterans. Sort food, winter clothing, books and toiletries for people in need and more!

Come spend an afternoon making a difference in the lives of others.

Don’t come empty handed! Bring a can of food, gently used winter clothing or a children’s book for someone in need.

We need everyone’s helping hands!

Many people. Many needs. Many Helping Hands.

Many thanks to the many organizations, city departments, businesses and individuals who help make Cambridge MLK Day of Service possible.

FAQ

Can I bring a group from my company, church, school, sports team, Girl Scout troop, etc?

Absolutely! Register as a GROUP above. Give us your name (or the name of the Group Leader), contact info, the number of people in your group (an estimate is fine) and your group affiliation (i.e. East End House, Broad Institute, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Beth El Temple Center, etc)

If you have questions, please email us at info@manyhelpinghands365.org.

Whom does our service benefit?

Your helping hands help thousands of Cambridge (and Somerville) individuals and families in need. Last year we made more than 500 fleece scarves and blankets for homeless children, teens and adults; more than 3400 Valentines for isolated elders, veterans, troops overseas and homeless parents and 1300 activity kits for children waiting in hospital emergency rooms. We collected and distributed almost 500 grocery bags of food to 13 local food pantries, dozens of bags of winter clothes to shelters and dozens of bags of childrens' books to local literacy programs. We reached more than 7,000 vulnerable children, teens and adults in our community.

Can we bring kids?
 elders?

YES! We've designed the projects to encourage even the littlest hands to be able to participate. We have had children as young as 2 and elders 90+ lend their generous hands in service. Children do need to be accompanied by an adult who can work alongside them.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The best way to come is by MBTA. We're in Central Square on the Red Line. The #1 Mass Ave bus stops across from City Hall. There are some public parking lots nearby as well.

Where can I contact the organizer with questions?

You can email us at info@manyhelpinghands365.org. We'll be in touch soon!

Can I make a monetary donation?

Yes! Donations pay for the supplies we use at MLK Day of Service. Thank you!

I have ideas for you!

We'd love to hear from you! Email us at info@manyhelpinghands365.org

Can I help before or after MLK Day?

We can always use more hands helping with planning before MLK Day, managing projects on MLK Day, finishing up sewing blankets and scarves after MLK Day and delivering all the wonderful things that volunteers make and sort on MLK Day. Email us at info@manyhelpinghands365.org
