Calvert Vaux Park Bio Blitz - City Nature Challenge 2022
Date and time
Join NYC urban naturalists to explore and document the biodiversity of Calvert Vaux Park as part of the 2022 City Nature Challenge!
About this event
This event will be held as part of the City Nature Challenge, an annual 4 day global bioblitz to document urban wildlife. Field trip participants will be encouraged to take photos (using a camera, cell phone, or other device) of plants, insects, birds, and other wildlife encountered during the trips, to contribute to the citywide and global effort.
Calvert Vaux Park is an under-explored park in Brooklyn with several trails and a waterfront view of the Verrazano Bridge. The event will take place during low tide to take advantage of the exposed shoreline. We will meet inside the park at the "Pollinator Place" near the pedestrian bridge over Shore Pkwy (see it on a map).
Participants of all levels are welcome! Local naturalists with expertise in plants, birds, and insects will share their knowledge on the biodiversity of the park and how to make meaningful observations. The bioblitz will be led by Chris Kreussling.
Getting There: Calvert Vaux Park is a short walk from the D train (Bay 50th Street), and is also accessible via the F, N, Q, R trains, the B82 bus, and by car.
