 LEADERSHIP CONCEPTS AND ETHICAL DECISION-MAKING

FOR PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHERS 

 

 

The goal of this course is to provide an understanding of leadership roles, concepts, and practices within a public safety communications environment. Ethical issues faced by public safety dispatchers will be examined and analyzed using contemporary ethical decision-making models. The course will employ interactive, learner-centered activities to cause students to think critically regarding ethical dilemmas, leadership opportunities, and the formulation defensible and professional response strategies to workplace and personal challenges. Students will leave the course with the skill and knowledge needed to enable ethical decision-making, along with the ability to surface strategies for personally exemplifying leadership within a public safety communications operation

The San Diego Association of Public Safety Dispatchers (APSD) develops and presents training courses for public safety dispatchers.
 
Classes presented by APSD are certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and meet the continuing professional training requirements for California public safety dispatchers.
 
APSD works in conjunction with existing law enforcement, fire/EMS associations and resources to bring the needs and concerns specific to communications to the forefront.  APSD is an independent, non-profit association made up of fire and law enforcement communications center managers, supervisors, phone and radio dispatchers in San Diego County.
