SCOTT JOHNSON Composer, Steelpan, Drum Set, Marimba - Callaloo Co-Founder

Scott Johnson, with a B.A. degree in music theory/composition from Western Illinois University, is the composer/arranger of all Callaloo’s original compositions. He has performed on both steelpans and drum set at clubs such as Metro, Double Door, and Martyr’s, festivals such as Taste of Chicago, conventions at McCormick Place, lounges such as Windsor’s Lounge at the Palmer House Hilton, and innumerable private parties. Scott has also recorded drum set, steel pan, marimba, and Latin percussion for many other local musicians around the Chicagoland area. In addition to performing, Scott also owns Upbeat Music, a music lesson studio located in Chicago’s Chinatown. You can go to to register for lessons on any instrument in the band.

TERRY PEEPLES Drum set, Marimba, Lead Pan, Hand Percussion - Callaloo Co-Founder

Terrance P. Peeples is the percussion professor at Illinois Wesleyan University. Mr. Peeples has a masters, bachelors and an associates degree in percussion performance and a minor in education from Western Illinois University, Illinois State University, and Joliet Junior College.

Mr. Peeples is currently a member of the Percussive Arts Society and is on the Vic Firth Education Team. He was the winner of Chicagoland’s Best Drummer Contest in 1991 sponsored by WBBZ The Blaze, and also the Drumset 2001 Individual Champion at the Senior Drum Corps Finals in Syracuse, NY.

Mr. Peeples is a freelance musician in Chicagoland in which he plays jazz, rock, blues, hand drum and steel drum gigs.

TONY ERAZMUS Percussionist


Ron received his music education at DePaul School of Music, where he focused on guitar performance and was DePaul Guitar Ensemble Concertmaster for three years. He has participated in master classes with Oscar Ghiglia, Mark Maxwell, and Anne Waller, and attended on scholarship two sessions of Southern Methodist University’s SMU-In-Taos Classical Guitar program.

Ron has studied under Brian Torosian (Northeastern University), Mark Maxwell (DePaul University) and Robert Guthrie (Southern Methodist University), and has performed as a soloist for concerts hosted by the Fox Valley Arts Council, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the City of Naperville, as well as many other venues.

Ron has been a private guitar instructor for over 15 years; his experience includes designing and teaching the Naperville Park District guitar program for several years. Ron has also contributed his talents to many charitable fundraisers and events, including the Kendall County Arts Guild and the Healing Arts program for Edward Hospital. Ron is currently Executive Director of the Fox River Academy of Music and Art (in Oswego, IL), and, in addition to his involvement with Callaloo, performs regularly as a soloist and with the Fox River Academy Guitar Ensemble.


Vinny Kabat is a Chicago-Based musician primarily specializing in electric bass and violin. He received his bachelors in Jazz Studies from Elmhurst College and is currently a freelance bassist throughout the Chicago area. He can frequently be seen playing in musical pits throughout Illinois and with Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band Voodoo Child. Power trios Lord Waffle and Skunk are both original projects that feature compositions of Vinny's. He enjoys jazz-fusion music that explores odd time signatures and is thrilled to do so in Callaloo as well as with Wanees Zarour's Middle Eastern fusion ensemble East Loop and Aimee Gwen's Pat Metheny Project. In addition to performing, Vinny teaches both privately and through Altered Stage in the West Loop.

JORDAN KAMPS Steelpan, Marimba, Latin Percussion

Jordan Kamps is a Chicago based percussionist. Currently Jordan is a Lecturer at the University of Illinois at Chicago teaching Applied Percussion, Percussion Ensemble and American Popular Music History. Outside the university, Jordan actively teaches high school marching bands in Wisconsin. He has taught groups in both the WSMA fall circuit and the MACBDA summer circuit. As a performer, Jordan has performed with such varying groups as the Extra Crispy Brass Band, Milwaukee Bucks NBA Drumline, Sleeping At Last, and Chicago Arts Orchestra. Recently, Jordan performed as a member of the backing orchestra for parts of the international tours of Evanesence, Celtic Thunder, and Lindsey Stirling. Jordan holds a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater and a Masters of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

Jordan also performs with Ensemble Prime, a mixed chamber new music ensemble in Chicago; Cream City Percussion, a percussion quartet from Milwaukee, WI; and Four Star Brass Band, a New Orleans style brass band in Chicago

Jordan Kamps plays Marimba One and is proud to support them as a Premier Artist. Jordan is also a Black Swamp Percussion Educator.
