The Kimberley is like nowhere else in the world. This special place is home to the world's oldest living culture–with songlines dating back some 60,000 years–and is home to many rare and threatened species of plant and animals, like the threatened Greater Bilby.
But right now, our Kimberley is at risk of being industrialised. There are plans to drill up to 40,000 fracking wells across the pristine region, unless we act now.
One local hero who has been leading the fight against the industrialisation of this area is Yawuru Traditional Custodian, Micklo Corpus. Micklo has been camping out on country for two years now, raising awareness and doing anything he can to stop the growth of this destructive industry; an industry which threatens his cultural lands, and our safe climate future. But he can’t do it alone–will you answer Micklo’s call?
The Call of The Kimberley - A Fundraiser to Fight Fracking is a community fundraiser to support the campaign to stop gas fracking in this spectacular region.
Together, we aim to raise $10,000 to support the heros of the Kimberley–like Micklo–and strengthen the campaign to protect the rich natural and cultural heritage of this beautiful region.
We cannot afford to allow this sacred land to be turned into one of the world's largest fossil fuel basins. Please come along and together we will show Micklo, and others fighting against fracking in the Kimberley, that they do not stand alone.
