Event description
This introductory meeting will serve to outline the Call of Chtulhu: The Crusades design project to interested participants.

About this Event

This project will design a new setting for Call of Cthulhu based on the Crusader States. The project is a collaboration between The History and Games Studies Network of the University of Edinburgh (created by Dr Gianluca Raccagni), and the Edinburgh University Roleplaying Society (GEAS).

This will build on the forthcoming medieval Cthulhu expansion by Dr James Holloway, which would enable Keepers and players to run scenarios set in and around the Middle East during the medieval period.

The purpose of this project is to give students studying a variety of different subjects at the University experience in creating a supplement book for a role-playing game. Participants will be involved in every stage of the writing process, including research, planning, writing, graphic design, and editing (and, at a later stage, play-testing).

This project is set in the Crusader States (which covered the coast from Turkey to Egypt, as well as Upper Mesopotamia) between 1100 and 1300, which were an incredibly rich melting point of cultures and cultural legacies. The proposed supplement will present a more nuanced and complex history of the crusading period than the simplistic 'clash of civilisations' narrative found in most other RPGs.

This meeting will serve to outline the project and introduce participants.
