Event description

Description

Author, Actress, Director ofColorado TINTS (Theater in Non Traditional Spaces) proudly presents "Call Me Mrs. Evers" the story of Myrlie Evers, civil rights champion and wife of Medgar Evers. When Medgar became the Mississippi field secretary for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Myrlie worked alongside him to end racial segregation in schools, public facilities and fought for voting rights for African Americans in the South. On June 12, 1963, Medgar was shot to death in front of their home by a white supremacist. When two all white juries failed to reach a verdict, Myrlie kept the case alive, pushing for justice for her husband. It would be 30 years later before his killer would be convicted by a multi-racial jury. Myrlie dedicated her life to civil rights, becoming chairperson for the NAACP in 1995 and establishing the Medgar Evers Institute in Jackson, Mississippi.
"Call Me Mrs. Evers" stars veteran actress Ladios Muhammad and made its world premiere in Denver in 2016.
