Event description
Dr. Salminen addresses love, its misunderstandings, and how God's word helps us to "Call it love, not quits."

About this Event

It doesn’t matter whether we call it love or sauerkraut. The most important question is not the intensity of the love we feel, but whether the relationship is good for us and whether we are navigating our part of it in a solid way. Dr. Salminen addresses love, its misunderstandings, and how God's word helps us to "Call it love, not quits."

Join us for our 2nd Marriage Luncheon Retreat at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort Ballroom, Saturday, April 6, 2019.

Doors open at 11:30 am, lunch is served from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, and the seminar starts at 1:00 pm.

Tickets are $25/person.

Singles, couples, and groups are all encouraged to attend.

Would you want to be in a relationship with you? Are you the “marrying” kind? Would spending time with you, make others better? It seems these questions are hardly asked and we are on a quest to find the “right” person, instead of “being the right person.” Falling in love tells us absolutely nothing about whether a particular relationship is healthy or good for us. Steamy starts are compelling but intense emotions can block our objectivity and dull our capacity for clear thinking and clear speaking. Intense feelings, no matter how consuming, are hardly a measure of true and enduring closeness. Intensity and intimacy are not the same thing, although many people confuse the two.

It Doesn’t matter whether we call it love or sauerkraut. The most important question is not the intensity of the love we feel, but whether the relationship is good for us and whether we are navigating our part of it in a solid way. Time and conversation help to size this up. Is there a sense of safety, ease, and comfort in the relationship that makes authenticity and self-disclosure possible? Does the person we love enlarge (rather than diminish) our sense of our self and our capacity to speak our own truths? Is this person a better person because of me? Am I a better person because I am in a relationship with this person.

Dr. Salminen, a Lutheran pastor, licensed marriage and family therapist will discuss these issues in the seminar. Although there is confusion in our culture regarding marriage, scripture expresses the solemnity by which couples should enter this covenant. Call it love, don’t call it quits!
