Description

Please join us for a meeting of the San Diego Chapter of the California Solar & Storage Association (formerly CALSEIA) on June 26th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Sustainable Energy.

In addition to time for networking with others in the industry, the program will feature the following:

-Community Choice Aggregation (CCA): CCAs have received quite a bit of attention recently with the city of Solana Beach moving to a CCA arrangement on June 1st and the city of San Diego considering proposals. How does this impact the solar industry? What will this mean for current and future solar customers? What are the ramifications for SDG&E? Come to this panel discussion to hear the answers to those questions and many others as we hear from:

  1. Cody Hooven, Chief Sustainability Officer for the City of San Diego
  2. Mark Hughes, Climate Action Campaign
  3. Dan King, Assistant City Manager, Solana Beach
  4. Ty Tosdal, Tosdal Law Firm

--With constant attacks from the utilities, we need all hands on deck, including the roughly 700,000 solar customers in California. Hear about the Solar Rights Alliance, a new organization mobilizing this constituency across California to defend solar choice and energy independence from their executive director, Dave Rosenfeld.

Refreshments and Snacks will be provided.

Special thanks to our meeting sponsor, Everest Solar Systems.

The meeting is free and open to all active California Solar & Storage Association members. If you are interested in learning more about membership or attending but you are not a member, please contact California Solar & Storage Association Membership Director Carter Lavin at carter@calssa.org or 610-772-6591.

Presenters:

Mark Hughes: Mark spent a career in power generation, most of it starting up coal-fired power plants. Some of those years were spent with Kansas City Power & Light, and some with another investor-owned utility, The Southern Company. In the late 90's, after learning about the science behind climate change, he switched to Solar Turbines and headed up the marketing and sales of gas turbine generator sets firing renewable fuels (mostly landfill and digester gas). He retired in 2012 and provides consultation services to the power industry, as well as volunteer activities related to combating the worst effects of climate change. Since 2015, his house and cars have been powered from an array of solar panels, and a storage battery was added to the system earlier this year.
