The 15th Annual California Freethought Day is Sunday, October 16, 2016, and combines the fun and atmosphere of a fair with the education and activism of a conference.
Join us for engaging speakers, live entertainment, family activities, an authors' panel, and more!
Because of the rain, we have moved the event from the California State Capitol Building to an indoor venue, right next door to Reason Center. The venue is not far from Cal Expo.
We are thrilled to share with you the many people who will be speaking, entertaining, and participating at our Authors' and Podcasters' Panel at this year's Freethought Day (and the Fundraising Reception the night before):
Aron Ra – Celebrating his birthday with us, the newly-announced president of Atheist Alliance of America will be one of our featured speakers. He’s best known for his powerful YouTube channel and is about to release his first book. [W]
Sanal Edamaruku – We’ll be the first California stop for this Indian author and the president of Rationalist International. He moved to Finland in 2012 to evade arrest for blasphemy for questioning a “miracle” in Mumbai. [W]
David Silverman – The firebrand president of American Atheists will be joining us, his first visit to Sacramento in a long, long time. [W]
Nas Ishmael - Formerly Muslim, Nas is now part of the Ex-Muslims of North America and will share his compelling story with us.
Shelley Segal – The Australian singer and songwriter who graced us in 2013 will be returning with beautiful new acoustic songs and favorite hits. [Site]
Dan Arel – This author and blogger has been fierce against the Ark Encounter and Ken Ham. He was well-received at Freethought Day in 2014, and he’s got a new book coming out. He’s also going to be our guest blogger, interviewing our speakers about Freethought Day leading up to the big event. [Site]
David McAfee – A young author and journalist, David grew up in Roseville and later moved to Santa Barbara to complete a degree in religious studies. His fifth book was just released. [W]
Cidney Fisk – After successfully fighting her public high school for secular rights, Cidney was recognized by national groups as a student hero!
Elbe Spurling – The author of The Brick Bible and other LEGO-inspired books.
Steve Hill – This hysterical comedian will be the main entertainment for our Saturday night reception. [Site]
Victor Harris - The talented poet that has performed at both Reason Rallys and many Freethought Day events.
