Description

This year's symposium will feature panel discussions on the protection of animals in entertainment through litigation, legislation and elections. The litigation panel will discuss captive aquatic animals and review some of the Animal Legal Defense Fund's most recent cases related to zoos, orcas and rodeos. The legislation panel will discuss SB313, California's Circus Cruelty Prevention Act, and other local, state and federal legislative efforts. The ballot initiatives panel will provide an overview of California election law and review Florida's "Protect Dogs- Yes on 13" campaign which led to the end of dog racing in Florida. The last panel will focus on the needs of rescued animals and challenges that sanctuaries currently face.
