About this event
High school students from Los Angeles High School of the Arts and Sonia Sotomayor Arts and Science Magnet participated in year-long workshops led by CalArts graduate students and alumni. In the fall, the high school students learn about different performance styles and are challenged with creative activities like improv, creating short skits, writing personal narratives, and developing characters. Throughout the spring, CAP instructors lead students through the creative process to make their own dramatic works, from coming up with an idea to putting it on stage in front of an audience. This culminating performance features two separate programs of short pieces written and performed by the students.
The California Institute for the Arts (CalArts) Community Arts Partnership (CAP) offers free after-school, school-based, and community-based art programs for youth ages 5-18. The programs are offered at public schools, community centers, and social service agencies across Los Angeles County with classes led by accomplished CalArts faculty, alumni, and student instructors.
