The Cal Poly Alumni - Washington DC Chapter is excited to participate in giving back to our community by volunteering with the DC Central Kitchen. We will be helping prepare meals from 9 am - 12 pm on Sunday, March 19th. RSVP by March 12th so we know how will be joining us.
Here is what to expect:
The group will meet at the Starbucks on 1st Street and E Street NW. We will leave Starbucks at 8:50 am so if you are running late, please meet us at DC Central Kitchen. When we arrive the head volunteer coordinator will place groups of 2-4 people in different tasks from cutting vegetables to cutting meat or opening donated cans of tuna. A waiver will have to be signed before the start of the shift onsite and children under the age of 18 must provide a parent/guardian name on the waiver.
We are so excited to jump back into volunteering in 2017 and look forward to bonding with alumni through community service! DC Central Kitchen is a nationally recognized "community kitchen" that recycles food form around Washington DC and uses it as a tool to train unemployed adults to develop work skills while providing thousands of meals for local service agencies in the process.
Please wear close toed shoes, sleeves and long pants (no leggings or tights).
As mentioned, we will be meeting at the Starbucks listed above, but if you are running late the directions to the kitchen are listed here:
425 2nd Street NW, on the ground floor of the Federal City Shelter, a three-story grey building on the southeast corner of 2nd and E Streets NW. Take the back entrance on the side of the building. There is no on-site parking at the Kitchen, so please use public transportation if possible.
Feel free to reach out to Amelia, your Chapter VP, at 858-922-6555 if you are having trouble finding it.
