Event description

Description

Missouri Wing Cadet Programs is conducting a Cadet Leadership School (CLS) 19-21 January 2018 at Fort Leonard Wood that will be set up in a fashion to prepare potential teams to compete in the Wing Cadet Competition (WCC) 16-18 March 2018 at Ft Leonard Wood. That team will go on to the NCR Cadet Competition in April.

There will be two CLS tracks: Col Mary Feik Airmanship Course and the Brig Gen Charles A. Lindbergh First Sergeant Course.

The Col Mary Feik Airmanship Course will prepare Phase I Cadets in grades CADET through C/SrA how to be good followers. Cadets study Air Force perspectives on leadership and drill and ceremonies. They will also receive an orientation for encampment preparation. Cadets will need a complete uniform with the appropriate insignia to attend.

The Brig Gen Charles A. Lindbergh First Sergeant Course will prepare Phase II Cadets in grades C/SSgt through C/CMSgt to learn how to lead small teams. Cadets study Air Force perspectives on leadership, drill and ceremonies, and the role of the noncommissioned officer. Furthermore, they will be introduced to CAP Pamphlet 60-13 Cadet Staff Handbook and the role of the Squadron First Sergeant: Holding the most prestigious and challenging position available to a cadet NCO, the cadet first sergeant’s role is a varied one. The “shirt” is expected to be a master trainer, a great motivator, a fair referee, a just disciplinarian, and an aide-de-camp to the cadet commander. Cadets who’ve completed all requirements for the Wright Brothers Award but are waiting for Time-In-Grade will be permitted to attend the First Sergeant Course.

Phase III-V Cadets are highly encouraged to assist as Instructors, Cadre, and Support.

The NCR Cadet Competition will chose which of the 7 Wing's victors will continue on to the Civil Air Patrol's National Cadet Competition, which showcases the full range of challenges in cadet life experienced at the squadron-level and new areas of learning that are important to America.

To achieve its mission and vision, the National Cadet Competition program pursues the following goals:

1. Promote excellence in squadron-level cadet programs.

2. Promote individual excellence and learning in leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character.

3. Showcase today’s cadets as tomorrow’s aerospace leaders.

4. Achieve ever-increasing programmatic efficiency and return on investment.
