Event Details

Age Policy

Please refer to the age range associated with each class or camp as listed below on class descriptions as well as ticket registrations. The Cade Museum develops each Lab class to cater to specific age groups and development levels. Age requirements are enforced to promote the safety and enjoyment of all students in the lab.

Additional Guests Policy

The Cade Museum does not allow unregistered children in the Labs, as space is very limited. Parents or caregivers may watch during their student’s lab and should stay in the designated seating area.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

The Cade Museum relies on an accurate attendance count to make important arrangements for our classes and camps. If you find you will not be able attend a lab, please let us know by either calling the museum or sending us an email no later than 3 days prior to the date of the scheduled lab. No refunds will be available for cancellations within 3 days of the lab, with the exception being medical or family emergencies.

 

December/Winter Break 2016 Classes

Intro To Electrical Engineering

Saturday, December 3, 9am - 12pm

Teacher: Miss Mary Grace

Calling all future electrical engineers. This basic circuitry class will introduce students to 555 timers, op Amp, potentiometer, transistors and more! Each student will learn about and take home their own breadboard kits, ideal for making electrical connections and for testing purposes to keep the learning going.

Who doesn't need great gift ideas? This class encourages students to add their creative flair to some basic science and see what can be made with it. Roll up your sleeves and explore how to use simple material science to make tools that write and containers to hold your favorite things. We'll even turn up the heat and add a pinch of colorful geologic pigments. Students will bring home their fabulous gifts ready spread the joy of creativity this holiday season!

 

Slither Into PYTHON Coding

Saturday, December 3, 1pm - 4pm

Teacher: Miss Morgan

Location: Fab Lab

What will be taught?

Join Miss Morgan as she helps you “slither” your way through Python coding. Students will learn how to design simple Mad Lib generators, a simulated dice rolling game, and more.  Everything you design will be in the Cloud and sent home on your own flash drive provided in the class. This is the perfect small class-size for the beginner who wants to learn the language of Python Coding and apply it in class.

 

Solid+Liquid+SPLAT! A Creative Twist On Matter

Everything in the universe is made of matter. Let’s change up that matter a bit through transitions from solids to semi solids to non-Newtonian fluids, add some sound waves too. Let’s bring in Sir Isaac Newton while we’re at, oh you just have to be there!

Come celebrate some amazing and tasty inventions in the Creativity Lab. Students will create their own signature flavors and colors for gum, ice cream and soda pop, while learning how important factors such as temperature and measurement are in the lab environment.  Students will also leave with a bit of history and lore of the inventors who created these iconic products.


An ART-Full Afternoon: Cool Electric Collage!

Electric wall art anyone? In this class, students will make a unique piece of art, and learn how to make it light up! It all begins with creative hands on labs to help you understand how basic circuits work. Once you decide on the design for your cool collage, you will use all the knowledge you learned about making a simple circuit and apply it to your art work to light things up a bit!

The invention of mass produced paper changed the world!  We use it for communications to currency.  In this creative class, students will incorporate simple paper making, paper binding and artful soldering along with glass, metal and other interesting objects. Students will create their own sheets of pressed paper, glass pendants to keep or gift, and a bound journal with hard covers that incorporates artistic soldering, mental work, glass and paper. If you enjoy being a maker with artful flair, then this is your class!

This class uses a touch of  detective work, some science, and a splash of art to teach about the pH scale. Demonstrations will illustrate how students can use simple garden produce to manufacture their own acids, bases, and alkali indicators and then how they can be used to make paint.

Join Mr. Ralph, one of our new robotics pros, as he demonstrates how to send simple commands through coding in order to get a robot moving.  Students will learn how to design and build using Fab Lab LEGO robots, how to add on sensors, how to create their own codes, and begin to develop an understanding for what it takes to make robots follow commands. This is a simple introduction to LEGO Robotics. PLEASE NOTE: Students do not take the robot home with them.

Mr. Ralph will expand on basic LEGO Robotics allowing students to code, create, build and give those robots even bigger and better challenges! In this class students will build a Martian obstacle course to test their robots and break into teams to test their skills in the SumoBot ring as robots challenge and battle. PLEASE NOTE: Students do not take the robot home with them.

Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention

The Cade Museum for Creativity + Invention - located in Gainesville, Florida - is named for Dr. James Robert Cade, the physician, musician, researcher and inventor best known for leading the University of Florida team that created Gatorade.  The Museum's mission is to inspire creative thinking, future inventors, and early entrepreneurs.  The Museum is currently raising funds to open a 21,000 square foot building in downtown Gainesville.
