The University of La Verne Theatre Arts Department Presents

Cabaret

Book by Joe Masteroff

Music and Lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb

Directed by Sean Dillon

Musical Director Michael Skidgel

“What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play!” – Cabaret

Set in the Kit Kat Klub, a decadent night spot in the flamboyant Berlin of 1931, Cabaret is a spirited and sensual journey to the time of hedonistic abandon just before the Nazis’ rise to power. Cabaret features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the prolific songwriting team that created Chicago, Steel Pier, Zorba, Woman of the Year, Kiss of the Spider Woman, and many others. The book by Joe Masteroff is adapted from John Van Druten’s play I Am a Camera, which in turn was adapted from Cristopher Isherwood’s novel, Goodbye to Berlin. Cabaret promises to be a rousing evening of song and dance, a step back in time to a sultry night club in old Berlin, and a whispered word of caution about the dangers that live in the shadows.
