UPDATE: Both performances are SOLD OUT; a waitlist for unclaimed seats will open one hour before showtime.
Music, aerial, myths, juggling, poetry, wire walking, dance, acrobatics, drama—Cabaret Metamorphoses is circus like you've never seen it before.
Adapted from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the show tells the story of Arachne – the weaver of Greco-Roman myth whose tapestries spoke truth to power. The nine myths in Cabaret Metamorphoses are Arachne’s tapestry – stories of love, desire, violence, and transformation unfolding in an amoral cosmos. Blending lyricism, humor and the grotesque, this Circus-Theatre-Cabaret is a modern fairy tale for adults, mining ancient tales for truths about human experience – and weaving a story that finds redemption in the art of its telling.
Ovid was Rome’s bad-boy poet – exiled to the furthest corner of the Roman Empire for his Amores, poems about desire and seduction. Written during that exile, The Metamorphoses have a lot to say about art, truth, and power.
Under the direction of Kathryn Mederos Syssoyeva, Circus Center instructors, students, and professional members present two performances of Cabaret Metamorphoses:
- Saturday, July 19 at 9:00 pm
- Sunday, July 20 at 9:00 pm
We suggest a $20 donation per ticket. All proceeds go to fund future productions at Circus Center.
The doors will open at 8:00 pm. In the event we are sold out, guests without tickets can put themselves on a waitlist at that time; unclaimed seats will be released shortly before the show starts at 9:00 pm.
Parking in the area can be difficult, so take public transit! We are easily accessible via the N-Judah and #71 bus lines. There are also pay parking lots at UCSF Hospital and at the corner of Frederick and Stanyan (entrance on Stanyan).
