About this event
While some professionals go into the field wanting to be archivists,
many fall into the role with "other duties as assigned." Join CAA and
SLA-IL for a co-hosted online event to discuss this topic. Corporate
Librarian and Archivist, Julie Snyder will moderate a discussion
between Becca Smith MLIS, MBA, CA and Drew Davis to talk about their
experience working in both the role of special librarian and
archivist. Time will be left for audience participation and questions.
Speaker Bios:
Julie Snyder, MLIS
Corporate Librarian and Archivist, Shure Incorporated
Pronouns: she/her/hers
Julie Snyder is the Corporate Librarian and Archivist for Shure Incorporated, a global audio company that is all about delivering immersive and inspirational sound experiences. Since 2008, she has worked as a solo librarian to provide reference and research assistance to the people who design, manufacture, and sell microphones and other audio products, as well as to all supporting functions throughout the organization, around the world. She is also the managing archivist for the Shure Corporate Archives, which contains products, documents, photos and more, dating from the Company's founding in 1925.
Julie earned her MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh, and has a BA in Religion, History, and English from Oberlin College
In 2004, Julie joined SLA which she credits as being vital to her success. Julie is a member of several SLA communities including Engineering and has served in various leadership roles. Currently, Julie is serving on the SLA Board of Directors and holds the position of Secretary.
Becca Smith MLIS, MBA, CA
Librarian & Archivist, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates

Becca received her BA in History and Women's Studies from Avila University, MLIS from Dominican University in 2012, has been a Certified Archivist since 2013, and finished an MBA from Midway University in 2018. She has experience in a number of libraries and archives, including work for Missouri Historical Society, Chicago Academy of Sciences, Women & Leadership Archives, and UIC Daley Library. She has been working at Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, a forensic engineering firm, for the past 10 years as one of 2 librarians on staff and the only archivist.
Drew Davis, MA, CA
Manager of Policy and Corporate Records at the College of American Pathologists
Pronouns: he/him
Drew was recently promoted to Manager of Policy and Corporate Records at the College of American Pathologists, but from February 2016 through June 1st of this year, was the CAP Archivist and Records Manager. Prior to that he was Assistant Manager of the Motorola Solutions corporate archives in Schaumburg, Illinois from 2011-2016, and was an archivist at the Alabama Department of Archives History (his home state) from 2008-2011. There he processed the gubernatorial records of George C. and Lurleen B. Wallace.
