Event description

Description

Join CAA Arts Access for a reading and conversation with three Columbia alumni poets spanning more than thirty years and two generations. Harry Bauld ’77CC, a student of David Shapiro and the late Kenneth Koch, was twice first team All-Ivy shortstop. Selected by Matthew Dickman for inclusion in Best New Poets 2012 (University of Virginia Press), he will read from his new book, The Uncorrected Eye, evocations of a vision that "brims, marbles, quivers / over its boundaries, wells” in what Fred Marchant calls "jazz-like improvisations and whip-like turns" of "beautifully crafted poems" in which "we feel we are meeting [the world] for the first time.”

Elizabeth Straus ’09CC, '14SOA was a finalist in Narrative’s Seventh Annual Poetry Contest. She earned both her BA and her MFA from Columbia, where she received the Karen Osney Brownstein Writing Prize. She lives in Brooklyn.

Kimi Traube ’08CC, '14SOA completed her MFA in Fiction and Literary Translation at the School of the Arts in 2014. Her translation of Juan Villoro's collection The Guilty (George Braziller, 2015) garnered praise from the NYTimes and the LA Times, and 3 Percent. Selections from her novel in prose poems After Any Number of Things, What's One Thing More? were highlighted for in 2015 for the Best of the Net anthology.

Wine reception to follow the reading. Light appetizers will be served.
