Event description

Description

In response to the escalation of hateful behavior and hate crimes in our area, SURJ Annapolis & Anne Arundel County is pleased to offer a Bystander Intervention Training, conducted by the Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition.

Join us to learn how to step up and be supportive when fellow community members are facing hate speech, harassment or worse. As allies, it is necessary to be trained in how to intervene when we see someone being targeted (whether at a march or just out in public). Knowing how to appropriately respond is part of being accountable to people who are often marginalized and targeted because of their race.

This interactive training will provide a grounding in the principles of nonviolence and de-escalation, followed by interactive scenarios. The Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition has helped to train over 2,400 people in bystander intervention since the Inauguration.

Register by Wednesday, May 17 for planning purposes. A goodwill offering will be collected at the end of the training.

Social hour 1:00-2:00 p.m. - please come early and join us for some light refreshments and conversation!

Training 2:00-4:00 p.m.

ALL are welcome. This training is appropriate for all youth aged 12 and up.

Saturday, May 20th, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, located at 333 Dubois Rd (off Bestgate Rd and N. Lawrence Ave).

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. Sign up in the google doc to bring food or help set up!
