Event description

Description

If you see someone being bullied, how can you help? How can you do it safely? How can you help without the risk of making things worse? If you have ever wondered what to do in uncomfortable situations of bullying and harassment, this 3-hour class in Active Bystander Intervention techniques is for you.

Our instructor, Rona Fischman, will also teach you how to interrupt everyday social aggression with people you know -- while maintaining the relationship! -- as well as give you preparation for acting with strangers.

This class is suitable for persons 18 and older. It's an interactive class with role playing sections so you can practice what you are learning.

This class is free thanks to the financial support of Community Credit Union (myccu.org), the work of the Somerville Commission for Women (SCW), and in-kind contributions from the instructor Rona Fischman. There are a limited number of places. Please sign-up only if you are sure you can attend.

Testimonial: The bystander class reversed a life-long feeling I’ve had that as an introverted person (when I’m with strangers — if I know you, I’m a big loudmouth), I could never be useful in this kind of situation. Rona Fischman is a terrific facilitator and taught me how to work with my natural reserved inclinations and that everyone has something to contribute to help keep our world respectful. That’s pretty damn amazing.
