Event description

Description

Have you ever wondered ... What is patient advocacy? What does a patient advocate do? How can you be a patient advocate in your role?

BYHP's Spring Advocacy 101 event hopes to answer these questions and many others. The event will feature Andrew Frates, brother of Pete Frates, who was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 27. The brothers contributed to the viral trend of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014 which raised millions for ALS research and increased awareness of the disease. Andrew travels around the world sharing his brother's story and raising ALS awareness.

The event will also include a panel with speakers from the non profit sector, pharmaceutical industry, along with hospital and caregiver representation to provide different perspectives on roles in patient advocacy. Panelists will include Paul Kidwell, PR consultant/caregiver, Michael Antonellis from the National Brain Tumor Society, Denise Flaherty from the MGH Office of Patient Advocacy, and Ellen Brown Schwanke from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The event will conclude with participation in the Hot Pepper Challenge.

Tickets for non-members are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. BYHP members and Tufts Affiliates can attend the event for free - promo codes will be sent via email. Half of all ticket sales will go to the Peter Frates #3 Fund. Direct donations to this fund are encouraged and can be made at the following link.

Thank you to Tufts Medical Center for their kind collaboration.
