Description

BOARDS WITH BRAINS is SVP’s open-to-all nonprofit governance education series. Join us for our 2018 trainings, like this one: Have you considered joining a Board of Directors, but don’t know much about the inner workings of nonprofits? This session will give you an overview of the nonprofit sector and best practices.

About this Session: Strong nonprofits need strong Board members, but where does one even start? This training will provide the new or curious board member with a foundation to better understand the nonprofit sector and what creates highly effective organizations.

Attendees of this session can expect:

  • To understand the basic structure of nonprofits.

  • To be able to identify key markers of high performing organizations.

  • To find and plug into organizations that align with personal interests.

About our Presenters:

Nia has worked with and for the nonprofit sector her entire career. Her experience crosses organizational size, structure, and roles. This allows her the unique experience of both reporting to and receiving reports on a Board of Directors, being in a development department and managing one, and managing and being a volunteer. She was proud to serve on staff at Voices For Children CASA, Blue Sky Bridge, and the Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association. Nia currently volunteers her time as the Board President of the Acorn Early Learning Center, on the Board of Attention Homes, as a member of Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County, a CASA volunteer and as a partner with Social Venture Partners of Boulder County. Nia received her Undergraduate Degree in Sociology from the University of Michigan and her Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management from Regis University in Denver.

About SVP's Boards with Brains series:

SVP Boulder County believes strong nonprofits deliver better results. For our nonprofits to be wildly successful, we believe strong leaders – both staff and board – help create adept organizations. Our Boards with Brains professional development series was designed with that in mind. We’ve got a variety of nonprofit leadership topics, as well as ‘tracks’ and levels to help attendees identify which sessions suit them best.

Our per-session fee is a below-market $40. Individuals or organizations can purchase a transferable, 8-punch pass (giving you a $10 discount on each ticket), and, each session also includes a limited number of scholarship slots (just ask).

Please note, SVP closes registration two days prior to each session and all attendees are asked to register in advance. Day-of drop in participants should understand there may not be space to accommodate them, or sufficient quantities of session materials available. They will be expected to pay on site with a credit card (please note, scholarship and 8-pack pricing is not valid for drop-in attendees).
