BWA May 3, 2014: Business Bootcamp for Creatives

Marketing, Finances and Healthcare -- Oh my! If the essential details of starting and running a creative business are a recurring off-ramp on your yellow brick road to success, this workshop is for you. Come spend an afternoon and learn must-have business knowledge all writers and other creative professionals and independent contractors should know.

Three Colorado business specialists and a panel of successful small business owners will share their expertise and answer your burning questions. There are three Bootcamp sessions, followed by the panel discussion.

Your 7-Sentence Marketing Plan!
Feel overwhelmed by the concept of marketing yourself? Bette Frick of The Text Doctor will show you how to streamline your marketing plan into 7 sentences so you can start right away―right after Bootcamp that is―to plan and implement your marketing. Bette will focus on how to increase your exposure to prospects and your income from your business. This session is for employees and freelance independents who are averse to marketing themselves.

Building Your Significant Other
Are you starting or running a business, but fear financial uncertainty? Do you wonder if your business can provide security for you now and for your retirement? In this session, Loretta Dorman of Wealth Baristas will show you how to discover what it costs to be you, determine if your business can support both your lifestyle and itself, and ensure that you and your business are able to thrive into your Golden Years.

Navigating the New Health Insurance Marketplace
What does the new Health Insurance Marketplace, set in motion by the Affordable Care Act, mean for you and your employees and which plan is best? Tim Gaudette of the Small Business Majority will walk us through the online health insurance enrollment process for Connect for Health Colorado, demonstrating how the SHOP Marketplace works, which businesses qualify, and how you and your employees benefit. At the end of this session you will be ready to get enrolled and get covered!

Panel Discussion - To Oz and Back: Insightful Tips From Those Who Have Made the Journey
In a lively panel discussion, hear creative and technical small business owners share tips, experiences, and practical advice for starting and running a creative business. Topics may include follow-ups to the presentations and questions from attendees. Come prepared with your pressing questions and gnarliest challenges. Anything goes--almost. Need some insight into developing your financial plan, managing client relationships, or developing estimates, and more? Chances are this group has a solution. Need to ward off flying monkeys? Maybe not.
