Topic covered: How to Launch Your Product on Kickstarter

Description/Goals: This practical workshop will cover the essential ingredients of a successful product Kickstarter project that any aspiring inventor, product designer, or hardware startup will want to consider before starting a campaign. Considering Kickstarter for your amazing new invention or product idea? Want to learn why some Kickstarter campaigns raise a multiple of their goal while others struggle to make it to the finish line?

We’ll answer questions such as:

  • Is my idea just a one-time project or am I ready to use a Kickstarter as a go to market strategy for a new venture?

  • How can I figure out my target audience and make sure they will hear about my campaign?

  • Who are the necessary talents I need to assemble in my campaign team?

  • What’s my contingency plan if the campaign fails?

  • How much should I ask for?

  • What’s my fulfillment plan?

  • How can I best use social media to promote my campaign?

Gabriel Shalom

Gabriel Shalom is a video director, producer, serial entrepreneur, and the CEO of Betabook – a portable whiteboard in the form of a notebook which he launched on Kickstarter in 2015 thanks to over 1,600 backers for over $91,000 – 600% of the campaign’s goal of $15,000. Gabriel has consulted on successful crowdfunding campaigns for a children’s educational website platform, an independent musician, and a brick and mortar gaming shop. He has over 12 years' experience producing and/or directing pretty much every kind of video you can imagine, from commercial work for global brands (MINI, Sephora, Shure), non-profits (British Council), and agencies (Wieden+Kennedy). He brings a passion and enthusiasm to his teaching that motivates entrepreneurs to take control of their video destiny. He is the founder of Vocoder Video, a full-service video production company based in NYC. He has taught for General Assembly and presented his work at agencies (Local Projects, C&G Partners), and guest lectured at some of Europe’s most prestigious art and design schools (Sorbonne Paris, KUVA Helsinki, Bauhaus Weimar).
