The Business Resource Summit 2019 on Tuesday, May 14th is a collaborative effort by the Merced College Business Resource Center and the UC Merced Small Business Development Center to connect businesses and employers in the County of Merced (small, medium, and large), across all industries and sectors, to available solutions to today's prevalent challenges in business. The Summit will provide a robust menu of resources, services and information for employers; everything from workforce development, marketing and social media to cybersecurity.


7:30 - 8:00 Summit opens to public (Continental breakfast provided by Toni's Courtyard Café.)

8:00 - 9:10 Welcoming remarks and Summit overview with representatives from both Merced College and UC Merced.

9:15 - 10:15 Keynote Speaker Dr. Jeffrey Michael, PhD. (Executive Director, UOP Center for Business and Policy Research)

10:05 - 10:55 Panel #1: Workforce Development: Strategies to hire the right people, lower training costs, and reduce turnover rates.

11:00 - 11:50 Panel #2: Customer Engagement/Social Media: Strategies to engage and retain customers with social media tools.

12:20 - 12:55 Lunch Keynote Speaker: Robin Donovan (Managing Director El Capitan Hotel, Tioga and Mainzer Theater Development)

Morning Keynote Speaker: Dr. Jeffrey Michaels (Director, Center for Business and Policy Research)

Dr. Jeffrey Michael's areas of expertise include regional economic forecasting and environmental economics, including regulation on land use, property values and employment growth. His research has received numerous grants, and been published in scholarly journals such as the Journal of Law and Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Energy Policy, and Ecological Economics. He makes frequent presentations to the regional business and government audiences, and is cited over 200 times per year in the local and national press including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times Magazine, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Newsweek, National Geographic, Washington Post, NPR, and PBS. Before coming to Pacific in 2008, he spent nine years as faculty, Associate Dean, and Director of the Center for Applied Business and Economic Research at Towson University in Maryland. Jeff received his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University, M.S. from the University of Maine, and B.A. from Hamilton College.

Lunch Keynote Speaker: Robin Donovan (Managing Director, El Capitan Hotel, Tioga and Mainzer Theater Development)

Robin Donovan is the Managing Director for El Capital Hotel, Tioga Apartments and the Mainzer Theater. This project in Merced, CA, all part of the Joie de Vivre brand of hotels which Robin has been an integral part of for the past 15 years. Robin’s experience in the hospitality industry spans more than three decades. From the late 90's to early 2000's, she worked for Northwest Hospitality Group and held various positions such as Director of Food and Beverage up to General Manager at four of their hotels. When Robin isn’t donning her construction hat and work boots, she firmly believes in community involvement. In Scotts Valley, Robin volunteered at the Senior Center and was a Mayor appointed Planning Board Commissioner. In Santa Cruz, she was Board President of the Santa Cruz County Visitor's Bureau and on the board of the Diversity Center. Robin can be reached at rdonovan@jdvhotels.com.

What are my parking options?

Free parking is available in the parking structure on 19th street, adjacent to the Business Resource Center. Street parking is also free but not permitted in designated parking lot areas.

What's the refund policy?

We are not able to offer refunds for this event. All ticket purchases are final for the Business Resource Summit 2019.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

We will accept both printed tickets and online confirmation presented on a mobile device.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

We will admit attendees even if their name does not match the name of the registrant/ticket purchaser. However, we ask that attendees present either a printed copy of the order confirmation or an electronic order confirmation on a mobile device.
