According to the nonprofit B Lab, “B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.” The B Corp movement is impacting 21st-century corporate structure and business practice. This presentation will examine the evolution of B Corp certification and the processes that for-profit businesses commit to, to become a Certified B Corp.

At the end of the webinar you will be able to:

  • Examine and explore the B Lab and the reasons why it was started and how it impacts socially responsible business practices
  • Identify the legal issues surrounding B Corp and Benefit Corporation status in business structure in your state and where to find more information
  • Discuss and explain GIIRS Impact Assessment is used to evaluate businesses for B Corp Certification
  • Locate and analyze the Certified B Corps in different states and what makes them different
  • Distinguish different sustainable business practices that can position a business for success


Healthcare Strategist Susan Yirku brings collaborative leadership experience in organizational change. Sue studied Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Collaborative Leadership at Marylhurst University in Portland, OR. She has held a series of leadership positions in higher education, nonprofits and holistic health including: Compliance Assurance at American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS), former Associate Vice President College Relations at NCNM, former President Institute for Natural Medicine (INM), founding Executive Director AANMC, and Executive Director of Naturopathic Medical Student Association (NMSA). Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Sue has lived in Portland, Oregon since 1989. She has a deep interest in global health and dedicates time to coaching and mentoring future leaders.
