Sigma 3: Bushcraft Knife Making Course

This course is a great introduction to the full process of bushcraft knife making from start to finish using the stock removal method. Whether you want to venture out into bushcraft knife making as a business or if you want to make high quality custom knives for yourself and family.

On Day 1, we will begin with some basic knowledge of the tools and materials used in knife making. You’ll learn about the various tools we use as well as which ones to invest in and which ones to NOT. Then we will cover the various materials used for handles and fastening as well as sheath materials. Finally, we will cover the various steels used commonly in high quality knives. You’ll understand which steels excel in which areas. This knowledge plays the most important role in creating a high quality custom knife. After we cover the basic knowledge portion we will dive into the design phase. This will include a small discussion of types and grinds of knives and how that factors in to your knife design. After you draw out your knife we will dive right into putting your design into steel. We will finish out day one with drilling tang holes and heat treating our knives.

On Day 2, we will spend most of our time cutting the bevel of your knife, applying the handle and tightening up the fit and finish to give you a complete high quality custom knife hand crafted by YOU. A good custom knife must have a custom sheath and we will finish out day two creating a custom kydex sheath for your new knife and learning how to sharpen your blade.
