Event description

Description

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, Preservation Maryland is pleased to offer the experience of a day-long bus tour exploring Harriet Tubman's journey to freedom and the impact of slavery and the Underground Railroad on the landscape of Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Join us for a comfortable bus tour that winds through the rural landscape of Maryland’s Eastern Shore as you explore the life of Harriet Tubman and the hard journey to freedom for those escaping slavery. Visit sites related to Tubman's childhood and her near-fatal head injury at Buckstown Village Store and visit the final bural site of some of Tubman's in-laws at Malone's Church. Additional stops include the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center and an 1852 log cabin built by a free African American. All along the way you'll hear from expert tour guide, Priscilla Timken, about Tubman's family, her life as a slave and her commitment to abolishing slavery including her many dangerous trips leading enslaved people to freedom along the Underground Railroad.

Ticket price includes round-trip transportation to and from Hampton Inn Easton, lunch from Emily's Produce and water/snacks, entrance fees, and a souvenir tote bag with heritage tourism resources, and of course, expert tour guides all along the way.
