Calling all whiskey enthusiasts and foodies!

Women Who Whiskey L.A. is beyond exicited to announce the Burnside Whiskey Pairing & Dinner with Master Distiller Mel Heim at Sake Dojo.

Mel is one of our favorite Women in Whiskey: articulate, funny, deeply knowledgeable, passionate about her craft, and with one of the best palates in the biz. She was a pioneer for women in craft distilling in 2008 as one of the only female distillers West of the Mississippi.

Mel has made it her mission to turn the Burnside whiskey program into a one-of-a-kind oak study: taking ordinary and extraordinary base whiskeys and developing each blend as a grand exploration into the various qualities of the unique Quercus Garryana (Oregon white oak.)

The five-course gourmet dinner, which is being personally prepared by Sake Dojo proprietor Don Tahara, is a recreation of a previous Burnside/Sake Dojo culinary collaboration that Mel has dubbed the most superb Burnside whiskey and food pairing from her time at Eastside Distillery.

Welcoming cocktail: Ogata’s FightBurnside Oregon Oaked Bourbon (Burnside Blended), ginger liqueur, oolong anise syrup, lemon served on the rocks

Course 1: Asari Clams – clams, garlic butter, bourbon – served with Burnside Oregon Oaked Bourbon (Burnside Blended), (balanced, vanilla, citrus and toast)

Course 2: Sansho Pepper Grilled Oyster lightly smoked with oak -- served with Burnside 6 year straight bourbon, Goose Hollow RSV (peppery wood, bitter chocolate, tobacco)

Course 3: Whiskey Miso Pork Ribs – Miso and Bourbon braised Pork Short Ribs, cucumber Hijiki Salad – served with Burnside West End Blend (caramel, cocounut, corn bread)

Course 4: Bacon Wrapped Porchetta – Rye cured bacon, Berkshire Pork Belly, Kurobuta Port Sausage – served with Burnside Oregon Oaked Rye (herbaceous, dried spices, peach, delicate)

Dessert: Matcha Crème Brulee

The event will take place in Sake Dojo's intimate private dining room.
