Description

THIS BURNS SUPPER HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO TODAY, SUNDAY, JANUARY 24 at 6pm due to Saturday's Snowmageddon.

TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE but you will have to purchase at the door, $60 CASH ONLY please. Please email stashahealy@gmail.com in advance if possible so we can set a place for you. We look forward to seeing as many of you lovely folks as possible for this teriffic program.

The venue, the pipe band, and the singer have all graciously been able to reschedule for today as have most of our original guests, so it is on for tonight!

Join the fun this January as those who love Robert Burns, Scotland, poetry, bagpipes, Celtic music, Scotch, and a convivial evening with friends old and new gather to celebrate the 257th birthday of Scotland's beloved national poet.

Starting at 6pm, a bagpiper will greet you as you check in, hang your coat, and settle in for a wonderful evening. Tables will not be assigned so sit where you like. There will be both plated and passed hors d'oeuvres and a full cash bar. The haggis will be piped in at 7pm and we will toast the haggis with a wee dram (included in ticket price) followed by a buffet dinner of haggis, neeps (turnips) and tatties (mashed potatoes), roasted chicken, string beans, and dinner rolls. Cake and coffee will be available starting at 8pm and the full cash bar will be open throughout the event.

After dinner, we will pay tribute to Burns with singer Stefanie Kies and the Greenwich Pipe Band.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The Knights of Columbus is in downtown Greenwich, CT, a 15-minute walk uphill from the Greenwich Metro-North train station (there are taxis at the station, and for a return trip you can call Greenwich Taxi: 203-531-1818). Parking is available in a lot behind the building; on Putnam Avenue; on Greenwich Avenue, the town's main shopping street; across the street in the FedEx/Kinko's shopping plaza, and down the street at Greenwich Library. If you park in a metered spot, no need to pay the meter after 5pm.

What is the dress code?

Wear tartan if you have it! There's no dress code but people will be dressed smartly.

Can I bring my kids?

This is an adults-only event.

What is the refund policy?

If you had purchased a ticket in advance and were not able to attend on the snow date, you may request a refund to stashahealy@gmail.com by Monday, January 25.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

If you bought a ticket/s and are not able to attend, let stashahealy@gmail.com know at least two days in advance the name of the person/people taking your ticket/s.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You do not need to bring your printed ticket to the event. However, it would be prudent in case there's a problem with your registration. Please REMEMBER WHOSE NAME THE TICKETS ARE UNDER. The list will be alphabetical by the last name of the person who bought the tickets.

Will tickets be available at the door?

Tickets at the door are $60 each, cash only please. It would be helpful for the organizer to know of your intention to attend so we can set a place for you. Please email stashahealy@gmail.com if you are intending to attend and haven't purchased a ticket.

Is this event open to everyone?

Yes! You do not need to be a University of Edinburgh alumnus/a or have any Scottish connection at all. Come and join the fun and bring friends!

What are hotel options?

There are three hotels in Greenwich where you’ll get a good rate on a Saturday in January: the Hyatt (www.greenwich.hyatt.com; has a pool), a straight shot down Putnam Avenue from the Knights of Columbus, in Riverside; The Delamar (www.thedelamar.com; upscale), at the bottom of Greenwich Avenue on the water; and J House (www.jhousegreenwich.com; trendy) in Riverside.

What is haggis?

If you don't know, you probably don't want to know! Basically, this Scottish delicacy is made from sheep. We are sourcing ours from a well-known Scottish butcher in New Jersey. For the timid, there will be roasted chicken as a main course as well.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

For vegetarians, the buffet will include mashed potatoes, turnips, string beans, and rolls. If you have other dietary restrictions you are welcome to bring your own food that the kitchen can heat for you.
