Event description

Description

Volunteer with the Chicago Park District and UIC Campus Recreation to help clear invasive plant species and remove litter in the Burnham Wildlife Corridor at the McCormick Bird Sanctuary.

Meet at the Caracol Gathering Space, a little south of the sanctuary on the east side of the lakefront trail (https://goo.gl/maps/FKk167LSH852). We'll start at 9:00 AM and finish up around 12:00 PM.

Activities will be determined by the weather and what we find growing in the park, but we would likely be doing tasks like picking up litter, pulling out invasive weeds, and thinning out woody plants to help maintain the prairie/savanna habitat. Over the course of the morning, we'll also point out native plants that are growing, evidence of animals that use the park, and any birds that we may see passing through. We'll provide the gloves and tools. Plan to dress for the weather! Since it is possible that we may do work in muddy areas or off-trail, we recommend closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long-sleeves to protect from brush.

Other things to know:
*To reduce waste, we suggest that you bring your own refillable water bottle.
*There is NOT a restroom at the site, so plan accordingly!
