Event Details

Buried structures serve an important part of the infrastructure of communities and play an essential role in economic growth. In the 2016 Canadian Infrastructure Report Card, about 10% of the condition of buried structures were rated poor or very poor. These structures pose a significant threat because the deterioration is not easily visualized. Concrete materials are far superior in providing a durable, sustainable, and resilient option for buried structures. Most structural engineers are knowledgeable in designing concrete structures, yet only a few can design buried structures.

This presentation provides engineering professionals with a fundamental understanding of buried structure design, options of precast concrete products for underground infrastructure, case studies and associated design codes including changes in the upcoming release of Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code relating to buried concrete structures.
