BUMP'S BAGS IS THE IDEA OF A 4 YEAR OLD....that turned into a mission for his family and friends. Two years ago my son Sheldon "Bump" Miller II saw on the news that a kid twice his age was passing out sandwiches to homeless people. He turned to me and said, "Mommy I want to do that." Of course, I said ok Bump let's do it and never mentioned it again. That same Thanksgiving he said to me, "We should save the turkey to make the sandwiches out of for the people." I knew then that it was in his spirit to do and that if this was something placed on him purposefully then I had to support him. I was super excited that at his age he was living on purpose! He gathered his cousins Caleb and Milan and they started to plan. Bump actually called Restaurant Depot himself and asked would they allow him to shop there for his endeavor... it was a proud moment as a mother. They said yes and we drove him and Caleb to do the shopping. Milan was in charge of baked cookies and sandwiches. The group packed 100 bags and gave away several donated hygiene items. (Last year we reached our goal of 200 people thanks to you!) We headed downtown the weekend following Christmas when most people have forgotten that these people live this life year around and not just before or on the day of the holiday. As we were finishing up some of the people encouraged the kids to keep it up and next year bring blankets and socks. Could you believe that these kids were sad when they were done and starting planning for next year right on the way home. So this year we are expanding our efforts to not only the bags of snacks but, hopefully we will be able to get some gloves, socks and donations of blankets. So from Bump our family and friends we appreciate anything that you could give or send as a donation. Please email me personally for the address. Thanks in advance for your contribution!!
