Event description

Description

The Zeiler/Boyce/Gladieux family is happy to invite you to join us for the very first Bump, Set, ACT - Judith Zeiler Memorial Volleyball Tournament.

Judi was an avid volleyball fan and was known to host pool parties centered around the sport in her backyard. This tournament is meant to be a memorial where friends and family can celebrate her life, raise awareness on suicide prevention, and support the efforts of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). We encourage all participants to dress up and make this the party Judi would want it to be.

There will be two divisions, one for fun and one competitive. Registration is $150/team and will include 6 shirts, 6 drink tickets, and 6 raffle tickets. All proceeds of this tournament will be going to covering the vendor space, and supporting The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). AFSP funds research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide. To register visit: http://bit.ly/2wAIB9w

Our family will be participating in the Out of Darkness Toledo Walk on this same day in memory of Judi, as well. We encourage you join our team "Judi's Joy", or donate directly to AFSP here: http://bit.ly/2wz8ggf

Our Story:

This past October, out family lost Judi to suicide. Judi was a loving mother, wife, grandma, and friend. She was a shining star, someone who loved anything with a theme or party, and celebrated the smallest of feats. The death of Judi has caused immense heartbreak, but has inspired our family to be advocates and speak out publicly about grieving, mental health, and suicide prevention.

Suicide is currently the 4th leading cause of death for adults between the ages of 15 and 64 years, and the 10th leading cause of death overall in the United States. Ninety percent of all people who die by suicide have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder at the time of their death, but many never seek the help they need. We reflect our hope for preventative treatment in our tournament name, with ACT standing for the tactic of "Ask, Care, Treat."

We know we are not the only family that has experienced a loss like we have, nor will be the last. The important thing is that we are aware of how to seek help for someone who may be having suicidal thoughts, how we can actively listen to our friends/family to make sure they're really okay, and to slowly change the stigmas surrounding mental health.

Thank you so much for reading, and we hope you will be able to join us.
