Description

Workshop Descrption: The presenter will provide an overview of federal and state law and regulations, guidance from the federal government, and policies about bullying, harassment, and intimidation. The presenter will discuss how to address the issue in home, school, and the community, as well as provide tips for service providers and families.

Learning Objectives/Goals:

  1. Participants will learn to identify types of bullying, who are affected by bullying, where bullying occurs, and why bullying is a problem in the school setting.
  2. Participants will learn about the appropriate process for addressing bullying, harassment, and intimidation of students with disabilities in Maryland public schools.
  3. Participants will learn about data and statistics on bullying and compare the prevalence of bullying among children with disabilities in comparison to their nondisabled peers.
  4. Participants will learn about federal guidance, state laws and policies, and case law addressing bullying.
  5. Participants will learn about evidence-informed prevention strategies and effective ways to address bullying through a child’s Individualized Education Program.

Presenter: Mallory Finn, Esq. is a staff attorney at Project HEAL (Health, Education, Advocacy, and Law), a community-based program of the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities at Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Additional Information: Attendees may register for one, two, or all three of the presentations in this series. Attendees will eat lunch on their own from 12:00 — 1:00 p.m.
