Event description

Description

Help preserve DC's untold and hidden history by laughing until your ribs hurt. Thats right, by attending #BuildThePearl Comedy Fundraiser, a portion of your ticket is donated to cover the expenses of the #BuildthePearl capital campaign to build the 1848 replica of the Pearl schooner. Learn about the 77 people who escaped on the Pearl schooner from Washington DC's SW Waterfront and Buzzrds Point.

Host:

Chipp Jones started comedy as one of the oldest "new guys". Like one of his influences, Charlie Murphy, Chipp didn't come to standup till the age of 47. Now 9 years into it (please don't do the math to figure his age) he has developed a style he likes to call "A smart man in a fat guy's body". His jokes range from topical to the black experience to family life. With a view of the world slightly a skewed by a comedy mind and age, he likes to poke fun at the everyday experiences of a man of color.

He has performed at The DC Improv, The Baltimore Comedy Factory, Sully’s Comedy Cellar, The Baltimore Annual ArtScape, The Arlington Cinema Draft House, Liberty Laughs Comedy Club, Standup Up NY, Gotham Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club and Toured the SUNY Colleges.

Featured Comics:

Marcus Brown-

A native Washingtonian, Marcus Brown became interested in stand up comedy after keeping all of his co-workers in the back of the staff meetings, all of the people sitting in hearing distance at church, and anyone inquiring "how life has been?," in stitches minutes after talking. No matter the situation Marcus is good for laughs (many times unintentionally) A full-time idiot, he decided to use his quick wit and ignorant sense of humor to not only educate and inspire the youth but entertain and motivate adults.

Marcus' versatile, educated, and creatively urban style of comedy has caused him to quickly become a favorite amongst fans and fellow comedians in the Washington, D.C. area sharing the stage with such famous comedians as Renaldo Rey, Bruce Bruce, Rickey Smiley, Tony Woods, Michael Blackson, JB Smoove, Gary Gulman, Earthquake, Joe Clair, Mike Brooks, and Chris Tucker. Bringing laughs to everyone he encounters, Marcus Brown has appeared at Teddy's House of Comedy, Zigs Comedy Zone, WiseAcres Comedy Club, the Comedy Dock, Baltimore Comedy Factory, the DC Improv, Jokers Wild, Five Seasons, Tuckers Comedy Club, Jokes on Us, Laugh Lounge NYC, Comic Strip Live, Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club, the Riot Act Comedy Club, Arlington Cinema Drafthouse, HaHa Comedy Cafe, UDC, George Washington, and Howard Universities as well as various festivals, theaters, clubs, bars, and venues along the East Coast.

Danny Rolando-

Rolando made a great financial decision when he left a high paying bank job to pursue the rewarding, stable and low paying benefits of a career in stand up comedy. His material is extracted from his experience growing up Latino in America. He describes it as a double life; being Latino at home and American outside the home which has given him a slanted twist on life. He has entertained up and down the east coast and enjoys performing in front of all types of audiences.

Danny has opened for Alonzo Bodden, Tony Woods, Gary Owen, Todd Rexx, Cory Fernandez, Allan Havey from Curb Your Enthusiasm, and singing legend Julio Iglesias. He has performed at The DC Improv, The Baltimore Comedy Factory, GALA Hispanic Theatre, The North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, The Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, Sully’s Comedy Cellar, The Baltimore Annual ArtScape, The Arlington Cinema Draft House, Liberty Laughs Comedy Club, DSI Comedy Theatre, The Riot at the Hyatt, Wolftrap, Side Splitters Comedy Club, The Navy Heritage Burke Theatre, and Toured the SUNY Colleges.
