Description

Building(s) for a Sustainable Future

A symposium to accelerate progress on innovative, sustainable building practices in Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle counties

The buildings sector is responsible for 40% of all energy used in the U.S.

In Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle counties, we’ve seen great progress in constructing and retrofitting energy efficient and high performing buildings.

To reach adopted state, local and regional clean energy targets, however, we need to do so much more.

Building(s) for a Sustainable Future is an opportunity to work together, expand on success to date, and spur greater progress moving forward.

Featured speakers:

  • Keynote: Ed Mazria, internationally recognized architect and founder of Architecture 2030

  • Kelly Vaughn, Buildings Program Marketing Director at Rocky Mountain Institute

  • Shanti Pless, Commercial Building Research Group at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)

  • Josie Plaut, Associate Director for the Institute for the Built Environment at Colorado State University

  • Eric Harrington, Designer/Builder at Harrington Construction

Join us for a day filled with inspiring, information-packed presentations, dialogue, and break-out sessions.

About Ed Mazria, FAIA, Hon. FRAIC

Founder and CEO, Architecture 2030

Edward Mazria is an internationally recognized architect, author, researcher, and educator. Over the past decade, his seminal research into the sustainability, resilience, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions of the built environment has redefined the role of architecture, planning, design, and building, in reshaping our world.

He is the founder and CEO of Architecture 2030, a think tank developing real-world solutions for 21st century problems, and host of the AIA+2030 Professional Education Series, China Accord, and the 2030 Districts movement in North American cities, as well as the Zero Tool and Achieving Zero – a framework of incremental building sector actions that governments can put in place to ensure zero CO2 emissions reduction in the built environment by the year 2050.

Mazria recently introduced the 2030 Palette, a revolutionary new platform that puts the principles behind low-carbon/zero carbon and resilient built environments at the fingertips of architects, planners, and designers worldwide.

In 2014, he delivered the Roadmap to Zero Emissions to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Roadmap is a flexible approach to achieve zero CO2 emissions in the built environment by mid-century. He also issued the 2050 Imperative – a commitment to plan and design to carbon neutral standards – which has been adopted by the International Union of Architects and all regional professional organizations (representing over 1.3 million architects) in 124 countries worldwide.

Ed Mazria's awards include

American Institute of Architects (AIA) Design Awards
American Planning Association Award
U.S. Department of Energy Awards
